Building Blue Economy Partnerships at Beca’s Partner Forum
Partner Forum

Each month, Moananui facilitates a partner forum hosted by a different organisation, aiming to bring partners and collaborators together. These forums are designed to broaden multi-sector connections and ignite development within the blue economy.

Beca embraced their partner forum with a clear ambition: to connect their passionate team with blue economy projects and organisations.

"One of the biggest positive impacts we can have is by working together to achieve sustainable outcomes for people and planet," Jon Marshall of Beca says.

Showcasing Diverse Capabilities and Expertise

Recognising the forum as a vibrant platform, Beca aimed to broaden the understanding of their organisation beyond traditional engineering by showcasing the breadth of their work and diverse capabilities.

The forum’s format was an educational experience, allowing Beca to highlight their sustainability focus, past blue economy projects and introduce team members with specialised skills. With Beca’s Jon Marshall leading, contributions included Rex Johnstone from Nelson, specialising in aquaculture and industrial engineering; Troy Brockbank, a freshwater expert from the Auckland team, who shared an insightful kōrero about his recent journey to the USA, focused on sustainability and blue economy economic development strategies, as part of the International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP); and Sarah Johns, STEAM Leader at Nelson Intermediate School, who presented a selection of underwater engineering developed as part of the Ministry of Inspiration’s NZ Aquabots program. Beca’s involvement with Nelson Intermediate’s Aquabots programme, was an exciting point of connection, as they were eager to link Sarah and the project with local Moananui Partners.

Building Relationships for Future Collaborations

The forum yielded several significant outcomes. Awareness of Beca’s capabilities and services increased among partners, building on their experiences from other partner forums. The event also expanded the knowledge base of all participants, with insights into the NZ Aquabots program and underwater engineering projects, in addition to the learnings and knowledge shared from Troy’s IVLP journey.

Beca recognises that building relationships and partnerships takes time. Hosting a partner forum has allowed them to deepen connections, and the expansion of networks have sparked active conversations, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

“Huge thanks to the Moananui team for this opportunity to connect with Moananui Partners and learn more about our blue economy. We're so grateful for your mahi in this space and proud to be in a position to contribute to the Aotearoa Blue Economy. We can't wait roll our sleeves up and get stuck into some projects that will make a real difference to our people, our environment, and economic development in and around the big blue.” Jon Marshall says.
